Gene Kalwarski, EA, FCA, FSA, MAAA
Gene Kalwarski is a co-founder of Cheiron Inc., an independent, employee-
owned actuarial consulting firm with offices around the country.
For more than 45 years, Kalwarski has advised multibillion-dollar
Taft-Hartley and public pension funds. His experience includes serving
as the plan actuary to some of the nation’s largest multiemployer pension
plans and numerous state, county and city pension funds.
Kalwarski was one of the first actuaries to encourage pension plans to
conduct stress tests to manage their risks, and he developed and popularized
the use of interactive projection modeling tools for annual
valuations. Before founding Cheiron, he worked for more than two decades
at Milliman Inc., where he set up the firm’s Washington office
and served on its board of directors. Kalwarski has written several articles
about pension plans, and is frequently quoted by the press. He is
a fellow of the Society of Actuaries—the highest professional accreditation—
a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and an enrolled
actuary under ERISA.
