Benjamin P. Ablin ASA, EA, MAAA
Benjamin P. Ablin is a consulting actuary with Horizon Actuarial Services, LLC, in Silver Spring, Maryland. Focusing exclusively on multiemployer pension clients, he has extensive experience preparing projections of the future financial health of these plans. Ablin also consults on a number of other topics including plan design, funding strategies, administration, negotiations, withdrawal liability and the Pension Protection Act of 2006. He is the primary author of Horizon’s annual “Survey of Capital Market Assumptions,” a constantly evolving tool that can help answer the question of whether a plan’s interest rate assumption is reasonable. Ablin also recently authored “Multiemployer Pension Plan Reform Policy Issues” and co-authored “The Impact of Alternative Discount Rates on Multiemployer Pension Plan Funding.” He currently serves on the Pension Committee of the Actuarial Standards Board. Ablin graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with dual bachelor’s degrees in biology and chemistry. He is an associate of the Society of Actuaries, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries and an enrolled actuary under ERISA.
